The Best Domain Extension to Use for Blog Flips

There are several extensions, also called top-level domains (TLD), that you can register when getting a domain name for a new blog. However, most of them are not good at all for blog flipping and will only end up losing you money on your sale in the end.

I’m sure you know that .info domains are cheap, and since you are just going to sell the site anyway it can be very tempting to get one, but the problem is that you are not the only person who knows they are cheap. Getting a .info domain or another cheap alternative will do nothing but lower the perceived value of your site, so you won’t get as much money from the flip.

The .com extension is the most widely used domain extension in the world. Almost all regular internet users know the .com domain extension and most businesses prefer a .com domain name because it is very recognizable for an online business presence.

One of the things that I try very hard to get across to my blog flipping students is to never use domain names like .info or .mobi or any other unusual extension. You should always go for the big three, which are the .com, .net and .org extensions.

The typical impression people have about .info and similar sites are that they are cheap, worthless, and short term sites. They simply do not have the same perceived value as a .com, .net or .org domain. This can be a huge turnoff for potential buyers!

So, if you want to get the most money possible out of your site flip, you should be flipping blogs with .com domain extensions!

Why not to use .info as Domain Extension if my site or blog is an information provider site?

Info extensions are simply seen as ‘cheap’ by most people. When I come onto a .info site, I usually jump right off simply because I still haven’t come across any decent .info sites. They are really cheap at GoDaddy so marketers looking to get the best buy often buy these domains. They are usually for bulk sites, automatic sites or site directories. This just shows to most people their assumption that the extension is worthless is truer than ever. I’m sure by now Goggle feels the same. It’s tough enough to get into the SERPs with out putting more mountains in front of you like not using a decent extension. Just not worth it in my eyes, but go for it and let us know how well it works out for you. I’d love to be proven wrong.
